Denver Labor Day Weekend Party Ideas, Food and Recipes

While parades and festivals are certainly an important part of honoring the working men and women of America on Labor Day, a great party and end-of-summer cookout will also do the trick - especially here along the Denver Front Range where our summers can be a bit short.

So, I thought I'd put together a few photos, recipes, and other ideas to help spark some creativity in your Labor Day 2013 celebration in Denver - Jim

If you're going to throw a party, you may wish to send out a few party invitations. Martha Stewart offers some quality, downloadable Clip Art here.

Try serving a unique beverage like this Lemony Spiked Sweet Tea, a southern favorite complete with golden rum. This recipe is from Chef Emeril Lagasse.

Seriously? Guacamole Hummus? What a unique idea!

Information on the Denver Walk to End Alzheimers 2013

I've always enjoyed taking part in the Denver Walk to End Alzheimers, just one way we all can work to help destroy this horrible disease.

This year's event is scheduled for Saturday, September 21, 2013. Of course, both individuals and teams take part in this vital fundraiser for the Alzheimers Association.

Folks from Evergreen to Aurora to Englewood to Centennial are finding sponsors, organizing teams, and getting ready to hit the path.

There's nothing like popping on that purple t-shirt and going for an invigorating walk: one that'll keep you healthy, raise money to help others, and to help researchers figure out a way to stop this disease before it affects our kids and grandkids along the Denver Front Range.

The link below will take you to where you need to go to register as a participant, team, volunteer, or donor. Plus learn more about helping to eradicate Alzheimers. - Jim Holmes

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Mrs. Wyoming 2013 Visits Holly Creek Retirement Community

A few weeks ago I stopped by the Art Walk at Holly Creek Retirement Community in Centennial, one of the many events they have going on during their "Summer Open House" series.

Imagine my surprise when I came across Mrs. Wyoming 2013, Atana Velasquez! Well, of course I had to get my picture taken with her.

I also want to point out that Holly Creek offers a non-stop series of activities and presentations nearly every single day, designed to enlighten, inform, and entertain seniors. And you don't have to be a resident to attend.

If you're an area senior or the caregiver of one, feel free to stop by and take in the events and educational lectures at any time. Here's a list of their past events in July of 2013 alone.
